Guys, first and foremost, I would never write about or recommend this pizzeria to you if it wasn’t the most bomb thing in the world! I’m dead serious. I wouldn’t tell you it’s amazing just because it was in the movie “Eat Pray Love” I mean they used the same pizzeria mentioned in the book when they were filming for Pete’s sake.
I waited to go to L’Antica da Michele until the last week after two years living in Italy and it was a big mistake. I should have been beforehand because I definitely would have been back, again, and again, and again…
Yes, it is the pizzeria from Eat Pray Love, but that’s not what keeps the place packed from sun up until sun down. It has everything to do with the decadent Neapolitan pizza served within. Besides when we went, it wasn’t some tourist trap, the pizza is still cheap, it was all Italians waiting in line, this place is full of history in a magnificent sort of way that came before movie fame and continues after.
A little snippet from the movie, them actually inside eating pizza.
When you first arrive, you walk up to the door and get a number, then you step back and wait your turn in that haphazard Italian sort of way. We went across the street and ordered drinks at a bar and sat outside to wait for our number. It didn’t take more than 40 minutes.
Pizza pies are flying around all over the place. When you are seated you are squeezed in beside other guests, and it’s the perfect time to strike up a conversation. Our side mates were from Northern Italy and told us they stop by this pizzeria every time they are in Naples. After you take the first bite, you’ll see why.
